Gatwick Airport to welcome Aeroflot flights to Moscow, Russia

Gatwick Airport is to welcome a brand new daily service to Moscow, from airline Aeroflot, starting November 15th, 2016. Aeroflot, the national flag carrier of Russia, is one of the world's oldest airlines tracing its history back to 1923 and now flying to 131 destinations in 50 countries. The new route is in response to Russia growing in importance as a tourist destination, home to renowned architectural wonders including Saint Basil's Cathedral.

Flights 'operating as normal' says Monarch

UK-based budget airline Monarch has moved to quell speculation over its financial health following a raft of stories over the weekend. Negative speculation about the carrier prompted the airline to release a statement this morning stating: “Our flights and holidays are operating as normal, carrying Monarch customers as scheduled.” Monarch employs nearly 3,000 staff and is based at Luton airport.

Etihad Airways is adding three weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Sydney to operate a double-daily schedule from 6 February 2017. The morning departure from Abu Dhabi – EY450 – and the afternoon departure from Sydney – EY451 – will increase from four to seven flights per week.

Hamad International sees sharp increase in passenger numbers

Hamad International Airport has welcomed 17.6 million passengers during the first half of 2016, registering a growth of more than 20 per cent compared to the 14.6 million passengers served during the same period last year, setting a new passenger record for the airport. HIA also saw a significant increase in aircraft operations from January to June with a total of 118,069 movements, which represents a 17 per cent increase in aircraft take-offs and landings at the airport, compared to the same period in 2015.
